It’s not every day you hear about a young girl from LA who decided to pick up a fishing rod, drive to the lake alone, and falling in love with the sport. But that’s what I did, and I will tell you there’s something about fishing that makes it so unique from other sports. A sport that encourages and teaches you about self improvement, humility, and patience. A peaceful sport that allows you to escape reality and embrace the splendor of Mother Nature. How could something so simple could make you feel more alive than anything? You see, fishing isn’t just about catching, it’s everything in between catching that makes it so enticing: the stillness of the air, painted glossiness from the water with a golden reflection from the sun shimmering, the birds chirping, and a distant rumble of laugher from fellow anglers afar. Soaking in everything I find myself getting lost, time stops. Suddenly mortgage payments, politics, social pressures just melt away as I throw my next cast into the lake I can only focus on one thing….. catching some bass. As I close my eyes and and take in a fresh breath in a trance I just feel so alive, and it feels so good to be alive. Life is a precious thing, it should not be wasted. We go day by day missing the little things that make life so beautiful. Such as, It’s not the big things that make you fall in love with a person, it’s all the little things that person does for you that makes you fall in love with them. Everyone has that moment of pure bliss, time stops, as you feel the pole moving and the tip starts to bend, and you hear that little rewarding click noise of your drag pulling line, cause there’s a big fish at the end of it. I think one of the best moments while reeling in your fish is the moment you first see the fish come to the surface. A huge smile grows across my face as I proudly reel in my prize it’s at that moment I realize that all the days worth, money, and effort spent on catching a fish, it all becomes worth it. Fishing reminds me of life in a way. In life, it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey, Which is learning, making new friends, achieving goals, working on upgrading your tacklebox and rods, it’s all the little things that make it so great and just being on the water. Fishing has become my passion and my greatest escape from reality. I dream of one day being a tournament angler, maybe one day.
